IT IS ON! Be sure to check the links in the menu to the left, or click on these here if you don't know what a Menu is: It's been about a week and the bug has not subsided, it's actually crawled deeper up my ass. Nice. Anyway, as events warrant, like I get approval from the missus, I'll post stuff here about it. A couple weeks ago my wife informed me that I did, in fact, have approval for this. I guess I missed it in our conversation, or she was too vague, or I'm just a dumb guy. Anyway, as of now this project is on. I'm updating the map and checklist whenever I think of something I need or somewhere I might want to go. I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I'll even get to half the places on the map, it's just not practical to do in the two weeks I'm allowing for the trip. By the time I'm on the way home I'll probably be sick of it all and I'll be skipping everything, eating powerbars so I won't have to stop, and making it from Texas to California in 20 hours. Ha ha. We'll see, though. November 27, 2010 Hey, check it out. Countdown timer! February 5, 2011 Holy crap, it's less than two months away. Time is creeping by really quickly. I'm going at a pretty good pace of picking up items for the trip. I have a few major items to go (pants, boots) but I should have those in a couple weeks. My favorite motorcycle store is having their spring sale in early April so I'll pick up those high-ticket items then. A good chunk of the rest of the stuff I need is cheap (lip balm, first aid kit, power bars, etc.) so I should come in under my estimated budget. Before long I'm going to have to start going through all my shit to figure out how I'm going to fit it on the bike. I purchased camping equipment (well, tent and sleeping bag) that are designed for backpacking so they're pretty small. The one thing that is bulky is the sleeping pad I bought. No easy way to make those small. I saw some that were thinner, but still wide. And still $60 or more instead of the 18 bucks I spent on the chunk of foam I'm going to sleep on. Ha ha. Anyway, packing for the trip should be pretty interesting. March 21, 2011 Holy crap! Now it's less than one month! Where did the time go? I've got most of my major items purchased, save for pants and boots which I should be getting at the spring open house of my favorite motorcycle shop. I think what with the peg lowering kit, throttle lock, tank bag and charging cables, I'm all set with bike modifications. The main thing I have to do now is figure out how to pack all the shit that's been piling up for the past few months. April 15, 2011 This weekend I made the final two expensive purchases for the trip (and beyond): new boots and some rain pants to go with my jacket. So all that's really left are things like batteries, drugs, sunscreen, etc. Next thing I have to do is figure out how to fit all this crap on the bike. Ha ha. April 17, 2011 Oh crap! Two weeks! April 29, 2011 Shit! This is really happening! May 13, 2011 |
